Masterclass September 24-29, 2012: Pavel Gililov
   
     
 
The Masterclass with Pavel Gililov will be held at the Lanserhaus in Eppan from September 24 to September 29, 2012, with morning and afternoon sessions. The six admitted pianists will present a free programme of at least 75 minutes. For the 3 public concerts, scheduled on September 24, 26 and 28, each will perform a 45 minute programme, chosen by the Artistic Director of the Academy from the above mentioned programme. So each pianist will perform half a recital.

On their arrival in Eppan the participants will receive a travel allowance of €700*. They will enjoy free accommodation (single room) and meals in a hotel chosen by the Academy. Practicing pianos will be offered by the Music School "L.v.Call" in Eppan. On September 29 there will be a reception in the castle where Michelangeli lived and taught, Schloss Paschbach. The Mayor of Eppan, Willfried Trettl, will officially award the Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli Prize of €5.000* and the winner will be invited to play a short programme on Michelangeli's historic piano.

Two young pianists from the Conservatory of Bolzano and from the Institut für Musikerziehung will also be admitted to the masterclass. They will present a programme of 15 to 20 minutes. The masterclass is open to the public and is recognised as an educational project by the IME.

 

Pavel Gililov
 

Pavel Gililov was born in the former Soviet Union. Having received piano tuition from an early age, he performed for the first time with an orchestra at the age of eight. His exceptional musical talent was discovered by Dimitri Kabalevsky, on whose recommendation he began his studies at the Conservatory in St Petersburg, where he graduated with distinction.

In 1972, whilst still a student, he won the Moscow National Piano Competition and was awarded a prize at the 1975 International Chopin Competition in Warsaw. In 1978 he won the first prize at the International Viotti Competition in Vercelli, Italy and relocated to Germany.

His performances all over the world and numerous CD recordings received great acclaim from audiences and critics alike.

As a soloist he received invitations to the Salzburg Festival, Berliner Festspiele and Wiener Festwochen, the Edinburgh and Schelswig-Holstein Festivals, the International Music Festival of Buenos Aires, and many others. Besides his solo career he also devotes himself to chamber music, and since 1997 Gililov has been artistic director of the 'Sommer classics' international chamber music festival. He has a piano master class at the Hochschule fur Musik in Cologne and is Guest Professor at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. The pianist also holds several master classes throughout Europe and the Far East. Pavel Gililov is Chairman of the Jury and Artistic Director at the International Telekom Beethoven Competition, Bonn.
